Rocking Rectors

I was trying to contact Muriel Gray today via Twitter.
For a laugh, I tweeted to her saying if she didn't follow me I'd dig out a 25-year-old Sunday Mail newspaper cutting in which she and musician/writer, Pat Kane, discussed their roles as rectors of Edinburgh and Glasgow University respectively.
I was working as a feature writer on the paper at the time and recall Pat protesting at the photographer's request to don mortar boards. Muriel and I managed to talk him into it.
Fast-forward to the future and Muriel duly followed me - but I posted this snap nevertheless and we had some good banter.
I copied Pat - a prolific tweeter in - and he posted another pic of himself and Muriel during his election campaign at Glasgow Uni.
Pat went on to reveal that his campaign manager all these years ago was none other than... First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon!
