A rare vineyard
Today we did an 18 kilometre walk which was easy as it was totally flat. We followed the Canal de Perpignan from Ille surTet as it passed through the peach orchards. This vineyard is a rarity in the valley as the alluvial soil is normally considered too rich for vines. I also saw artichokes being cut which I have never seen before in this region and plenty of poppies. The canal was originally built in medieval times for irrigation and general water supply and was improved by the Kings of Mallorca to supply water to the gardens of their Perpignan palace.
