May Day
No celebrations here today but May Day has been celebrated since Roman times celebrating the Flora the goddess of flowers. In Dorset May tree branches are carried up to the Cerne Giant with Morris Dancing taking place on Giant Hill and a hearty breakfast awaiting them afterwards in one of the pubs below in the village. All to do with fertility rites!
The crab apple is flowering in the garden, spring has really arrived, and the oak tree behind in the paddock is in leaf.
