Tradition

This is a traditional farmhouse with its paddy fields in Shirakawago village between Takayama and Kanazawa. The village itself is still inhabited but is a UNEDCO heritage centre.
Later on, we passed through countryside with more modern farms, though extensive farming is not allowed. The farmers are heavily protected by government tariffs of 700% against foreign imports of rice to allow small farms to make a profit.
