No 174: Scaup

I say this with a fair degree of confidence because
a) it looks like a Tufted Duck but isn't
b) a Scaup was reported by the local birding site in the location where we spotted this one.
I will get it checked out to be on the safe side.
We are in Scarborough for a few days. I love Scarborough. It still has the essence of an unspoilt Victorian seaside town, as much as anywhere can, and there is always plenty to be seen in terms of bird life. I have got a disproportionate number of my big blip bird list hereabouts - mostly coastal or sea birds, which we get few of in Sheffield - although we did have a Gannet rescued from a local river not too long ago. Speaking of which, planning a trip down to Bempton tomorrow.
Footnote: ID confirmed.
