fine detail...

..and isn't it incredible how layer about layer of fine threads can build something strong and wonderful.

Book club colleague R's son and his partner are sponsors of a grass roots foundation in Romania.
Teenage boys who have been brought up in, the often notorious, orphanage institutions join a 12- month residential program where they receive trades training (from Romanian craftsmen), life skills, accommodation and care.
At the end of the year they receive a nationally, and I understand Eu, recognised Diploma of Carpentry. During that year they make 'made to order' furniture...beds, table, benches, wine racks! etc...the proceeds from which further fund the project.
A small farm supplements food for the students and generates additional income.

Kiwi Stuart was on hand to talk more about the foundation, what they do and what they hope to do in the future. He has lived on site for three years now and speaks Romanian, and listening to his stories of these young men, the challenges they have already faced in life and the nittygritty of everyday life in the country was extraordinary.

I could ramble on, but here's the website for more information.
