Woods Point Petrol Station (closed)
This closed petrol station is reputedly one of the most photographed petrol stations in Australia. It certainly lacks the bright lights and plastic "charm" of the modern day versions!
We drove through this little settlement during our 80km dirt track "short cut". Despite the fact that it made our journey home about 4 hours longer than anticipated! !!, we experienced a truly out of the way, remote and beautiful part of Victoria, in what sometimes feels like a state very full of people.
This tiny little petrol station served a gold mining community, that in its hey day of the late 1800s, had 30 hotels and other "services" for gold miners.
I found a You Tube link, which gives a good idea of the place and the immense effort required to mine for gold in these hills.
