Westmount church

This 1913 neo-Byzantine church is now the home of the Westmount Seventh Day Adventists. Designed by the architecture firm of Hutchison, Wood & Miller, who were responsible for many public buildings in the Montreal area and beyond, the building has been designated as an important heritage property and the architect's drawings are part of McGill University's collection.

The Byzantine style of architecture is often associated with Eastern and Orthodox Christian churches from the 5th to 11th centuries. It's revival in Western Europe lasted about a half century beginning in the 1840s. This building in Westmount was a little later on the scene.

I found it interesting that this massive church was constructed very quickly. The land was purchased by the Stanley Street Presbyterian Church in April 1913 and the congregation moved into a completed section in the fall.
