But watching you stand alone
As is our way, himself and I wandered along the banking tonight.
The air was still and uncharacteristically warm; my wrap which I carried for warmth was unnecessary.
Happy in each others company, we walked, chatting about the boats, the sunset, the clouds, the distance to far away places.
We smiled and said hello to people walking the opposite way from us - round and up, instead of up and round (we always like to walk the other way from everyone else).
We contemplated the heron and whether they liked salt water or not, and I took photographs of an imaginary seal.
We watched a man standing on the prom, whose dog ran 300 yards to the lower part of the wall, and then ran, back across the rocks and puddles, to stand 12 ft below her master waiting for him to throw the ball, which she was holding in her mouth.
And as we stood and considered how fortunate we were to live in such a lovely place - we were disturbed in our thoughts, by a hammering on glass, followed by shouting...
"haw ... haw... haw... away yerself and piss af Go'an Piss Aff".
And so we wandered on, eyes raised, but saying nothing.
