No Mistakes

Measures to reduce the risks of mistakes are taken everyday, by nearly everybody in nearly every profession or work situation they are in or even in the home.

In my life each day signatures are obtained to ensure money balances and that there are no mistakes. At the local nursery children are registered and signed in and out so there are no mistakes. Recipes are followed so there are no mistakes! (unless I cook), Plans are drawn, used by builders, joiners, metal workers and everyone else to manufacture their goods, so there are no mistakes.

Hospitals too have procedures so there are no mistakes. I was visiting a friend in hospital tonight who has had a little operation. They have wrote 'Left' on his left leg with a little arrow pointing down his leg. This is a very good indication that something was to occur on the left leg downwards. It didn't actually say it was past the ankle, along his foot to the toe.

Thankfully having seen him today the operation was successful and the correct toe on the left foot appears to have been removed. He's looking well and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Thank goodness for procedures to ensure there are no mistakes.
