Albatross over Otago Peninsula
Just about half an hour's drive east of Dunedin lies the end point of the Otago Peninsula where a colony of albatrosses has been settled for many years. This is one of (too) many images I captured there today.
Their wingspan as adults is in the region of three metres, and apparently they relocate to Chile at times, flying non-stop - that is, not landing on the water, not stopping for food, not stopping to rest. This journey takes them about nine days - apparently. Amazing, really.
