Budapest Parliament
I took a day trip to Budapest from Vienna today. This year abroad is probably the closest I'll get to doing an inter-rail trip so I took advantage of being so close to Hungary.
Budapest was interesting and quite challenging to do in only one day. My combined Vienna-Budapest bus ticket allowed me to have a whistle stop tour of most of the sights. The parliament building pictured was inspired by the one in London and was the winning design in a competition. I made a friend from Hong Kong in the queue for the famous New York cafe where we enjoyed sampling some lovely cakes. This is fast becoming the theme of this holiday.
Afterwards I wandered the shopping district and came across a lovely Easter market. Then I took a boat ride on the Danube, wandered the Castle District then sampled ALL the Hungarian food at a buffet restaurant that was recommended to me and I wasn't disappointed. I then took the train home as the hen and stag parties were starting to wander the streets - an aspect of Budapest I wasn't particularly interested in seeing.
My train journey back was quite eventful. I was sharing a compartment with a couple of students on their way to Munich and a mother and son on their way to Zurich and had brought their pet hamster with them in his cage!
