Gnatcatcher Feeding Fledgling
An early morning outing to the Rail Trail, Station Road (earlier than yesterday, yielding more birds). Blue-gray Gnatcatchers are very small birds that build well-camouflaged nests close to tree-trucks.
This nest was at least 12 meters (40 feet) above ground, visible only from a few spots nearly directly underneath--not an easy capture! Eight years ago I took a much more vivid picture of a gnatcatcher at an eye-level nest, which I just posted.
