They were having fun.

PJ took the dogs with him when he went to put fuel in the boat (boat on trailer and he takes it to the shed) There is a old loader then, & a couple of weeks ago, the dogs discovered there was a rats nest in under the bonnet.
They decided that as PJ had his attention else where, they would try and get to it.
When I had to take the ute up to him, I found the dogs looking like this!! Just before I had to leave for town. They had been climbing up from underneath the engine, and  trying to get to the top of the engine, but all they got was covered in a oily soot.
I had to wash them, as with Poppy getting skin rashes from 'things' (we don't quite know what) I had to get it off her.
Then it was into the boat, across to Te Mahia, and drive out from there. A stop at the doctors to get my flu injection, into town, groceries, and then pick up Craig.  Out to the winery to get 4 boxes of wine to be dropped off on the way home.
Craig slept all the way.
