Not Forgotten
On our way to my sister-in-law's village, up in the mountains of Extremadura, we passed this monument to the people who died during the Spanish civil war and the atrocities which followed. It's perched right up on the rocks, looking down the valley and is very dramatic and moving.
It's a wonderful little village, lots of houses in ruins, many which have been done up, some very lavishly, and mostly only old people living here. At holidays times families come back to their renovated homes and everyone is greeted like a long lost friend!
Lots of pan tile roofs, houses at crazy angles down narrow winding lanes overhung with old wooden balconies, storks nesting on the roofs and chimneys, swallows flitting and flying everywhere. Lots to explore tomorrow!
