Knight in Shining Armour . . .
Bit of an unfortunate end to our holiday as the habit of putting petrol into the hire car over spilled in putting into our own diesel car . . .
For a huge fee the RAC promised to contact a garage and get them to come out to us, so we sat and waited, in the gathering cold and darkness, for more than two hours and not a message or phone call or man materialised. We then telephoned the RAC and cancelled this arrangement and the credit card payment and phoned a local garage who came within 10 minutes!
By now it was after 8pm and our ferry had sailed without us, several hours ago. A local taxi driver found us a lovely friendly B&B with a vacancy and we went out to get something to eat, we were in dire need of sustenance by this time!
About 10pm the garage chap phoned to say he'd sorted the fuel problem and had noticed one of the back brake lights wasn't working so had mended that too! He collected Mike from the B&B, took him to collect the car from the garage and charged a lot less than the RAC too! If you ever have car problems in the north of Scotland, he's your man!
Booked an early breakfast and the morning ferry home to Ollie and Orkney!
