Amphitheatre...Tarragona....Tàrraco

Used for gladiator fights, fights with wild animals and hunting from the first century B.C..........and had many other uses up to 1780 when it became a prison for prisoners who were constructing the port of Tarragona....

We were here relatively early this morning, and had the whole place to ourselves..... a joy......as so many 'tourist attractions' are spoilt by having so many visitors!
Tarragona....with its rich and varied history .....is a delight to visit......and for many of us a well kept secret.....

Tàrraco is its Roman name......and as tomorrow is Palm Sunday.....am wondering how many Romans we might meet in the Processions?!
