Pendragon Castle, Mallerstang

Having dropped my lovely client off at the train station after lunch I had a First Responders meeting to go to in Sedbergh. Despite the day starting with standing snow on the roads it had just gotten better & better - and by the time I emerged from a not all that productive afternoon it had become simply glorious.
I initially thought I'd have a quick jaunt up Cautley Spout - but the sun isn't high enough in the sky of an evening yet to make that anything other than very chilly - so I headed over to Mallerstang ( the ridge in the background of today's Blip) and had a quick jaunt.

Taking the back lanes home I knew I'd pass the romantically named Pendragon Castle - obviously it has local legends that it was built by Arthur's father Uther Pendragon - but in reality no record or archaeological find can put anything on the site other than the Norman Tower who's foundations form part of the remaining ruin - which is mainly the Castle built by Lady Anne Clifford in the 1600's.
Its an idyllic spot, but sadly the state of repair & uninterested private ownership mean that you can't (officially) get that close to it any more, so obviously no walls were climbed in the making of this Blip.
