I was surprised to find myself standing with this skink at my elbow as I was trying to capture something well beyond. It gave me a moment to change the setting to macro and then hurriedly left. It is missing its tail, which means it has been in the wars lately.

Common skink, Oligosoma nigriplantare, endemic to New Zealand.

Even though I was achey from yesterday’s efforts I went to Christchurch to do my shopping, the first time in three weeks. I got everything done that I’d hoped to do, but I’m exhausted. My feet are hurting up to my knees.
