Had to visit the walk-in clinic today with severe laryngitis (like NO voice at all) and they handed me the mask.  Mind you, it did derive from a sinus infection I let go untreated all week, but really, a mask?!  Then I got to sit in the waiting room for an hour and a half (breathing in my own disgusting sick germs) while I watched every person that came in after me be seen first.  Laryngitis just doesn't rank very high on the triage list, plus I'm sure they figured that because I couldn't complain about it to them with my non-functioning vocal cords I was a good one to pass up.  Another 1/2 hour to 45 min wait in the room for a Dr. who clearly didn't want to be there on a Saturday, who then proceeded to make me beg for a steroid to help me regain my voice.  I believe his exact words were "well, what do you want from me?"  Hmmm. . . let me reference Google and give you my opinion, because I'm not paying you for yours right?  Finally, I pointed out to him that I'm a fitness instructor who needs my voice to teach (this morning's class was atrocious) and inquired as to why he thinks this same debilitating virus/laryngitis combo seems to strike me every mid-March.  His response?  "Well, if you have enough money to, I'd take the entire month of March off every year and travel to Hawaii."  Thanks, jerk, for your thoughtful and obviously very-well educated answer.  I'm super thrilled about forking out $250 (out of pocket) for this horrible visit.
