Jaguar - The Aztec Mystic

A promising morning meeting has turned into a crap afternoon. I have a mouintain of work and somehow virgins transfer of my dsl service from NTL freedom, which they now own, to the main virgin DSL service, which has a faster connection and better support, means I will be without a web connection potentially until Monday or Tuesday of next week. How they can call that service I'm not sure...

Fortunately a friend is letting me upload my blip from his house.

Anyway, The Aztec Mystic is also known by the name DJ Rolando and this track is thing of internet legend. Rolando recorded this for Detroit techno label/collective Underground Resistance. UR are famed for their dislike of major record labels, perhaps due to what happened to all Detroit's promising musicians when Berry Gordy shifter the Motown imprint to California and left behind the bulk of the people who had made him as big as he was.

The track in question Jaguar became a club smash both in the UK and Ibiza and due to this the major labels wanted to release it. When Mike Banks the owner of Underground Resistance refused to license it to a major Sony Germany had a team of musicians release a blatant rip-off of the track under a different name. Ordinarily, due to the huge gulf in resources between UP and Sony, that would have pretty much been the end of the matter however Banks, using th einternet for promotion, organised a huge boycott by record shops, DJ's and buyers of Sony's products and, as a result, Sony were forced to do a u-turn, shelve the rip-off and pay a large sum in compensation to UR and Rolando.
