Blip Forever

There was a bit of an initial shock when I first heard that Polaroid was the preferred bidder for Blipfoto. It all smelt a bit fishy. Although I've not had time to read too much of what's been posted by people, I've seen enough to know that the conspiracy theorists have had something of a field day. However, after a little bit of conversation with people who are quite well informed about the situation, I am now reassured that blipfoto has found a safe home. In simple terms, Polaroid had no vote, no board position and no other mechanism to bring about the liquidation. And according to press reports in the USA, Hilco are only a minority investor in Polaroid. We should be grateful that some people who seem to have a genuine passion for photography have taken an interest. Let's give them our support as best we can.

It seems to me that running Blipfoto is a bit like running a football club. I think it's clear now that it's quite a tough business proposition. I think it needs partnership and synergy with other services to be profitable. I doubt anyone would take it on purely in the expectation of  making money. I may be a little naive, but for now at least I am choosing to believe that the bidders actually care about the concept and appreciate the strength of this community. I want to give them a chance. Blip forever indeed.

It's got a bit serious this last few days so for a laugh I dug out a pair of my old running shorts, in which I used to race, and train around Ilkley some twenty years ago. Although it was mild enough, I didn't wear them while I was out but changed into them discreetly at the top. They felt obscene! It's quite amazing how fashion changes over the years. Do you think short shorts will become fashionable again? Would you want them to become fashionable again? !
