Abel Tasman

Probably my favourite day of the New Zealand trip! Caught the water taxi (this boat, which is launched into the water by a tractor driving into the sea) north up the Abel Tasman coast from Marahau to Torrent Bay. From Torrent Bay hiked 2.5 hours further north to Bark Bay. At Bark Bay we met Pete our kayak instructor who was waiting on the beautiful sandy beach with a picnic. After our picnic we set out to sea in our kayaks and paddles arounf Tonga island, which is a protected nature reserve. Around the island we saw lots of seals and baby seals playing in pools. We saw rays and also a shark fin! We finished our kayak at Onetahuti bay and then enjoyed a swim in the warm sea before being collected by the water taxi and returning to Marahau. We then sat outside in the sunshine enjoying a glass of wine. It was a perfect day.
