Farewell Exmoor.
Mini holiday is over, sigh. The last photo before we left Tarr Farm Inn of the ancient clapper bridge at Tarr Steps. A unique stone bridge constructed about 1000 BC , or even earlier , it crosses the River Barle and is 180 feet long with 17 spans. The huge stone slabs weigh between 1 and 2 tons! In 2012 we visited when the bridge had partially washed away in very heavy flooding. There are thick wire ropes further up stream which usually catch any large bits of debris before they get to the bridge, but in 2012 these were broken by falling trees thus allowing debris to travel down steam taking part of the bridge with it! It's a grade 1 listed structure and was repaired very quickly!
We have had three very nice days at the wonderful Tarr Farm Inn, a place to be recommended. Wonderful food and lovely staff! Can't wait to return .
Farming - nothing today.
Home again and enjoying the rugby, woo hoo England just won!! ( sorry my Scottish friends!!)
