All systems go...
A definite day of 2 halves weather wise today. Started off dry with a touch of frost, so took advantage to get some fertilizer spread on the lambing fields and a couple of other grass fields. Hardly left a mark so was quite happy. Had 50 acres done before the wind started to pick up,then by lunch time it was tipping it down.
The 1st smote ewes into the lambing field by lunch time, and are quite happy lying in the shed tonight. When the tups go out in October, they wear coloured wax crayons on a harness on their chests. This leaves a coloured mark on the ewe's backside when she is served, and by changing the colour we can tell when she will be due to lamb. This lets us draw them into smotes (groups) at lambing time,so we don't have 500 ewes all in the shed at once.
