Waiting Game

The massive new P&O cruise liner Britannia was formally named in Southampton today by the Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh,  but whether the presence of royalty and celebrities had any effect on fish in the waters of the dock surrounding the ship, is open to question.
But fact that fishing is inevitably a waiting game  didn’t really seem to matter.
The sun was shining, the invited guests in dockland for the naming ceremony appeared enthralled by the celebrations, the cameras clicked, TV cameras whirred and little more than a stone’s throw away on the city’s Town Quay, the anglers got on with the task they were there for.
The Britannia apart, the city’s docks are a regular port of call for some of the biggest ships in the world, both cruise passenger liners, container ships and a variety of car carriers and bulk cargo carriers.
That doesn’t detract the anglers who are often to be found in the spots where there is public access to the waterfront.

And a royal occasion makes little difference to whether the fish in the harbour will be any more receptive to the bait on the end of an angler’s rod and line!
