Two histories
This shot combines two of Littleborough's historic features.
Holy Trinity Church was built in 1815 on a site about 15 yards to the north of the site of the original church, built in 1471. The earlier building was erected before there was a Littleborough village. Thus, the village was named after the church (then called "Little-brucke") rather than the church being named after the place.
The photograph was taken from beneath the Stephenson Arches, built for the Manchester and Leeds Railway in 1837 and designed by George Stephenson. The six railway arches still carry the railway through the centre of the village.
Here is another version.
