Netherthong....

Some friends have just bought a house in Yorkshire. It's a bit of a dump and must be the last house in Yorkshire that hasn't been done up at all. It's in the village of Netherthong near Holmfirth. I'd never heard of Netherthong. There is also Upperthong and Thongsbridge (could you at the back of the class stop sniggering?). It used to be an agricultural settlement and there was evidence of the Yorkshire woollen industry. All that's gone now leaving it prime commuter country for the professionals of Leeds and even, winter snow allowing, Manchester. The village was pretty and I'm sure the house will be in a year or so's time. It has, as estate agents say, great potential.
