Victorian Architecture

Yesterday I met up with a friend in Edinburgh and we went to look at the modern art exhibition at the Ingleby gallery. My friend is an amateur artist who is currently changing his style and moving away from figurative art towards abstraction and his tutor, Paul Keir is one of the exhibitors at the gallery along with several abstract artists from the London area. When we were in the upper gallery Paul Keir actually popped in though he seemed a bit embarrassed about visiting his own exhibition. The Ingleby Gallery is tucked away in Calton Road behind the Waverley Station and looking out of the windows of the upper gallery I saw this marvellous Victorian Overhead Walkway leading into the station. I just marvel that anyone would have had the forethought to make such a utilitarian piece of engineering into such an attractive and aesthetic pleasure. I love the way the repeated curves of balustrade supports are echoed by the repeated line of windows above them. It puts the fire escape behind to shame.
