Our local partner, the Lake Clinic, otherwise known as TLC, is a primary healthcare service which is taken by boat to floating villages on the vast Tonlé Sap Lake to the north-west of Cambodia.
In 2014 our medical teams saw a total over 23,646 patients, of which more than 9,000 were children.
As well as providing health care and health education sessions the team also work hard to provide safe clean water and combat malnutrition. The team works with families to plant floating gardens, which then provide vegetables which augment diets with nutrient rich food.
“The first harvest is in from our floating garden project. We've learned a lot in these past few months as we continue to try to improve the quality of lives one family at a time”
The people who live and work on the Lake and its tributaries are among the poorest and most vulnerable in the country. The nearest healthcare available to them can be several days' journey by boat to reach. Unsurprisingly, disease and needless disability are rife.
