Sunrise on the Ganges

Up at 4am to see sunrise on the Ganges. It was quite windy and the water choppy, so fingers crossed that we didn't end up in the water after all the activities we had seen going on in it last night!!

The boat was rowed by two boys, not too bad on the downstream leg, but really hard work on the return journey!!

Many people were bathing and the laundry men were busy.

The boats used on the river are built and repaired alongside everything else.

We walked back through the narrow streets and alley ways, frequented by cows and the inevitable deposits. Everything was dirty, dusty and strewn with rubbish.

We saw some children setting out for school. They were spick and span in their uniforms, either being picked up by the school transport or escorted by an older child.

Streets are busy with all forms of traffic day and night.
