Today's the day ......................... to sing your heart out

Absolutely no mistaking this bird today out in the garden.

He was singing his heart out at the top of the birch tree - repeating little phrases over and over in his mellifluous chant.  You can hear a song thrush singing here - and it's worth having a listen because it will fill your heart with joy!

Worryingly, it seems that numbers of these birds are declining seriously - especially on farmland - making it a Red List species.  Apart from its singing, it is particularly welcome in our garden because It likes to eat snails (of which we have hundreds).  It breaks into them by smashing them against a stone with a flick of the head. 

Always a satisfying sight, I think ..........................
