29th & 30th August '04 - Cadwell & John Reynolds
I was so excited about the weekend away with Andy, and going to see BSB. He picked me up on his bike....and that in itself was exciting and a treat. I'd been on his bike a few times now, when he would pick me up after work and take me somewhere.....but I was so nervous about this time (thrill of a longer journey, and as we were going to be staying in a motel overnight).
I'd worked real hard at having minimal stuff in my rucksack, so it would fit on the back of me. He'd brought only a few things too, so they would fit in the same bag (as he obviously couldn't wear a rucksack with me being pillion).
We got to Cadwell Park quite early....and started to walk around. We got to Charlie's Corner for the main race, and I remember that 'rushing' feeling as the bikes with all these well known riders went past us at speeds of circa 200mph..........it was just.....awesome. I could never ride like that, but am soooo impressed with these guys who can. The angles they lean at, the focus, perfect timing and sheer courage (there is a better phrase, but too polite to use it!) it takes to play 'chicken' on a corner.
And then..........while the race was in full throttle......right there, at Charlie's Corner, John Reynolds came off - a MASSIVE high-side!!!!
O.........M..........G
We were standing gobsmacked. Kept looking to see if he was moving and ok. Wow - that was an introduction to BSB anyway!
We walked around the stands in the park.....I had a t-shirt made for Andy that said "no, not at all" (as he had a tendency to say this, a lot!) with "GMD" underneath it. We bought a few t-shirts that day......will post a photo of my fav one tomorrow or the day after.
At one point, we were standing near the track and this absolutely huge black cloud was coming closer and closer.....and then they announced the racing was going to stop until the weather passed. It absolutely lashed it down.........and we tried to stand in one of the tents selling stuff........but it was packed......and se we got what you would have to call totally and utterly drenched. An older couple came over and put an umbrella over me.........which was really kind of them. Andy couldn't thank them enough for helping me.
Me...........I LOVED the rain, the fact we got soaked together.
All in all, it had to have been one of the best days in my life so far.
