My life line to him
Over the next few weeks, I lived for the text tone on my mobile - which was nearly always Andy sending me a text.
Often a joke, sometimes just a few words to see how I was doing.
I craved to know how his day went, anything at all he was willing to share with me.
He found his work very boring....which changed for the better later....because I knew he was wasting away at his job (he worked on a production line for Johnson & Johnson who made car seats for Nissan - massive plant in Sunderland). He had worked on a few programmes looking at efficiencies (six sigma, kaizen, lean etc - for the boring office types like me, I knew exactly what he meant when he began to tell me).
Andy asked if I would like to go to a British SuperBikes race with him....yes! yes! yes!! And, as I was to become accustomed to, he planned it all out for us both. Every little detail, including the route we would take, where we would stay.....and I could hardly contain myself waiting for that weekend to come around.
We were going to Cadwell Park on 29th & 30th Aug, and staying at the Haywain not too far away.
A weekend.......just the two of us......and hundreds, no.....probably thousands of motorbikes...... heaven.
