ON THE BEACH
I took time out to go to the beach today. Well. It was hardly sunbathing weather, but nevertheless the sun was shining.
And I wasn’t alone! There were a handful of hardy souls also walking on the sands. Bournemouth beach, of course, is well known for its extensive sandy waterfront. This view is from Alum Chine on the western side of the town and gives a fantastic view of what holidaymakers and day trippers will be enjoying come summer.
Foolishly, I do not get to visit Bournemouth as often as I would like, having worked in the town for a spell. Although at the time I had very little opportunity to visit the beach. But in my spell there, I found the town centre a delight and the townspeople very welcoming and friendly, which was most re-assuring to me as an outsider at the time, shipped in from head office 30 miles away, after a day of the “long knives” removed a complete layer of people in the Bournemouth office.
But although that was an age ago, my feelings for the town haven’t changed, and despite the chilly air today, the beach looked just as inviting as I remember from all that time ago.
Interestingly, I logged in to a beach webcam in the south of France earlier today. Again a long stretch of sandy foreshore looked most inviting. But there, no-one was on the beach!
