Sedum Telephium 'Matrona'
Minimum pottering in the greenhouse today; biting cold wind so I just got some notional fresh air.
I removed this sedum from a pot at the back end last year, repotted it and left it in the cold frame for the winter. It shared the pot with Sedum Telephium Xenon as I thought the dark waxy foliage of Xenon was a good combination with these greyish silvery green ones.
I was surprised and delighted when I saw how far out the foliage was. I think sedum is at its best when the foliage is fresh and new and 'untroubled' by unwelcome guests. Once it has flowered it tends to flop. This can be avoided by administering the 'Chelsea Chop' which means bravely to cut it back sharply before flowering - you tend to get shorter stems and more flower in the long run. You can also cut back just some of your flowering stems to provide a longer flowering period.
