Turn Your Back on Mother Nature

Have I mentioned that I love the sea?

I do.

Today was a meeting of Spring Tides, and High Winds.   I was expecting, lung bursting wind, and waves which were higher than my head.

Himself took me to the shore after work, and I ran down towards the prom wall.  The water was as high as the wall, and ebbing in and out.  It was wild but not dangerously wild.  Seagulls were playing chicken.  sitting in the damp sand, waiting for the seventh wave and jumping as the water breached their stand.

My problem was that the wind was blowing directly from the sea - a westerly, and that, coupled with the rain, it was pounding on my head and burning me.

We then drove around a bit and I grabbed some shots at the old car park on the rocks.  It was wilder still here, and the waves were fantailing along the wall and once or twice I had to jump to avoid a good soaking.

We finished at the harbour.   The sun was actually breaking the heavy clouds,  giving the stormy sea a forgiving look a about it.

I wandered, albeit tentatively round by the banking. The ground was saturated. and I don't hold my footing too well on dry ground :-)

I can see how people are tempted into dangerous places when the waves are like this.   I just wanted to go "one step" further to see round the corner.  Dearie me.   No, I could see that the waves were getting higher, and higher, I could easily lose my footing on the little rickety path, and it was a six foot fall on to the rocks below.

At the far side of the harbour, I could manage down on to the shingle beach.  There wasn't much left of it, and it was rapidly getting flooded as I crouched low and tried to capture the lovely waves.

Si was highly entertained as I scrambled back to the car.  One hem of my t-shirt soaking.
