Little Langdale
A magnificent 11 mile walk from Elterwater and back via Little Langdale, Tilberthwaite, Tarn Hows and Skelwith Bridge. Cool, clear and sunny apart from one snow shower which crept up from behind and blasted us for a few minutes.
Heard and saw a Lakeland hunt. Huntsmen were up on the Fell above Tiberthwaite, announcing their position by their horns. Several hounds were separated from the main pack and could be seen casting around for the scent. Once they heard or smelt where they should be they bounded off up the steep fell side.
Lunch at Tarn Hows, overlooking the lake then the walk back to Elterwater, the last mile and a half alongside Elterwater lake, probably one of my favourite views hereabouts. Right at the end a couple were standing looking out over the river and pointed out to us a Kingfisher perched on a branch. We've been searching for this elusive bird for ages, we went looking last Tuesday even. To see this beautiful bird made the end of the walk extra special.
Nice cup of tea and pannatone when we got in, long luxurious bath, bottle of beer, glass of wine and an open fire. Great dinner too. One of those days.
