Concordia

Circa 1916, this building is part of the Loyola Campus of Concordia University. It houses the faculty of arts and sciences as well as administrative offices and departments providing various student services. Concordia is an English language university in Montreal that began in 1974 with the merger of two separate colleges: Sir George Williams, located downtown, and Loyola, located in the borough of Notre Dame de Grace.

Loyola began as an English program of a Jesuit college that was founded in 1848. It became independent in 1896 and acquired land in 1900 upon which three buildings were constructed for occupancy in 1916. Now on Sherbrooke West, a major street in Montreal in a well-populated neighbourhood, at the time of construction, the college was surrounded by farm land.
