Des Res

Still snowless but an extended walk in another valley of multi-coloured rocks, pillars, and rock chambers of various sorts.
This outcrop seems to have a number of old houses in it.
We also visited the Goreme Open Air Museum, which is a preserved/restored monastery with many decorated churches of different ages and all the accompanying living quarters. There were quite a lot of tourists around here but the museum was well presented.
Then a trip to above the town where we could see rock houses still being lived in among the newer buildings.
After lunch we had a short drive to an underground city before driving on to the mountains. There are a number of the cities around, some huge and could hold 10,000 people. They were not permanently occupied but could be lived in for months at a time to escape various invaders, and I think it was mainly the persecuted Christians who dug and used them. (I'll have to get a book from the library and read more)
