The Pet

For some time the kids, especially Olivia, have been asking for a pet. We haven't just dismissed the idea as we've sat down for a family chat to discuss the pros and cons and thought that we had made it clear that now wasn't a good time for us to have a pet.
Not one to be deterred she has been doing her own research in the library (one of the problems of getting to school so early in the morning and having a child who loves books and libraries). She recently announced that after much research she has decided that the pet for us is a Golden Retriever. I found the above books in her bag. She has read them from cover to cover several times and has started to 'test' us on how to look after a dog. She has researched where you buy dogs from, where there is a local vet, where you buy dog toys and food and even how you remove ticks! She's not sure where you buy collars from or how you get their names engraved onto the collar, but she assures us that she will find out. 

Me: 'We're not getting a dog, darling"
Olivia: "It's okay as me and my friend are going to use our pocket money to buy one in May, so you don't need to worry."
Me: "We're not getting a dog."
Olivia: "Yes we are, we've worked it all out."
