One River: South Yorkshire Navigation

Today's walk couldn't have been more different than yesterday's. I resumed my One River challenge, to walk the length of the River Don, or as close as it's possible to walk. This view is looking downstream towards Rotherham - what a difference to the babbling stream where I started on the moorlands! From the canal basin in Sheffield, it runs parallel with the canal, except that from time to time, they converge and then split again. There is a lot of heavy industry along this section. The river is now navigable, but there are few vessels on it nowadays. It was a pleasant day and despite this probably being the least attractive part of the walk (so far at least) there were some pleasant sections, and I got a tally of 21 species of bird, although most of these I saw only fleetingly.
There are no roads or paths along the next section of the river, so I will probably walk along a small section where I can, then resume further downstream where access is much better, and the scenery starts to improve.
