300 steps to go
This was on our walk down the steps from visiting Wat Pra That Doi Suthep which is the holiest shrine in Northern Thailand. It is perched on a steep mountain and after the zig-zag drive up (in which Kai was a bit icky-sick) the view was amazing. We caught the funicular for the last few hundred yards, but walked back down. The sides of this stairway are the huge serpent, Naga, a deity in Buddhist mythology. It almost looked as if Naga was underwater with the dappled sunlight shining on it.
After this we visited Chiang Mai Zoo and Aquarium, which was most impressive - the largest in South east Asia.. We managed to catch a shark feeding session too which was quite amazing - they have some pretty large sharks in there, and some lovely specimens of rays too. In the zoo, Dylan fed some meat to a jaguar for the sum of 40p, (Dylan paid, not the jaguar!) then it was Kai's turn and he fed some to a leopard (they put the meat on a long stick which goes through the bars - not an option at London Zoo). This reminded us of the time that C fed some buffalo meat to a tiger in Laos, but that wasn't in a zoo, and is a long story.
This is our son Dylan, with his wife Teresa (a.k.a. Wan-Tzu) and Beck and Kai on the steps. Dylan finished up carrying both boys which must have been quite hard going in this heat. We did remind him that it will be our turn to be carried soon. I won't repeat his reply.
