What a wat
Sunday evening in Chiang Mai is a huge night market, when most of the main streets in the old city are closed to traffic. There are literally dozens of wats around here, and I was amazed to see that the grounds of the wats were opened to the food stalls. Lots of benches and tables had been erected and thousands of people had thronged to the area.
It was great to see these lovely gardens used in this way, and everyone remained respectful in these sacred places. No smoking or alcohol was allowed, but there was plenty of music, and merriment.
This pagoda was named by King Bhumipol, but I shall have to copy the name as it consists of about 20 letters.
