Typical Burkina?

I was going to post these pretty flower pics that I had taken ...but somehow, that is so misleading about the landscape here. This on the other hand is perhaps emblematic of what i see... always an odd contrast that my outsider brain gets fixated on. Here you have in the middle of the pretty villa front lawn, an old refrigerator! The big problem of course is garbage, there is no municipal pickup, so what to do with it all? Well, most of  the neighbors just burn their garbage on the street on a semi regular basis...but not so easy to do with large appliances like fridges :P So here it sits, adding to the odd yet typically bizarre landscape of this interesting country.

I wonder though at the quantity of water needed to maintain all this pretty vegetation. It is certainly not a typical sight either. I hope some of this vegetation is climate appropriate at least in terms of water requirements. =\
