The glove of the worker

The worker’s glove, said the PM, 
is a glove that's good and true;
it's the glove our party cares for,
that means we care for you.

We're tackling tax evasion 
and all manner of fiscal ills.
We're managing the economy 
with an austerity that thrills...

... most of your mates and the markets,
quips the worker’s glove in a fist.
You'll cut at every chance you get
nothing will be missed.

That’s not true, we’re very committed
the PM responds in haste,
the glove of the worker is really
to cut back on red tape and waste.

No, the worker’s glove replies,
we rate fairness under the law,
not cabals and secret deals
and always grabbing more.

Big finance is out of control,
can you put a stop to that
or will it need the worker’s glove
the worker’s coat and hat?

For sure no change will come about
while the toffs look after their own,
from paedophile to minister,
from banker to royal throne.

We're all mostly workers now, 
trapped in contracts and loans,
but we know change is coming,
we can feel it in our bones.

So don’t push your luck, dear leaders,
don’t lie in that smarmy way.
The glove of the worker is freedom
to choose when you’ve had your day.
