Lace

I cycled into college today for the first time since all the snow and ice, which has mostly melted away at last to leave a drab and litter-strewn landscape. It was a misty and cold morning and I was immensely cheered up by seeing an otter looking up at me from the water of the Nith. We watched each other for a while before going our separate ways. It was a quiet morning at college as the tutors had taken the NCs out on a day trip to Gateshead and most people were working from home. I did some work on my graded unit and then as a bit of light relief, I went to the darkroom to make photograms. I always find this a relaxing activity.
This one is of four different kinds of lace. The two in the middle are handmade, one with tatting (I think) and the other crochet. The lace at the top is Bohemian, from my wedding dress. I'm fascinated by lace, the making of it and its place in social history. The photogram is a study for a liquid emulsion image I'm planning for the near future. It's also a homage to a photograph of lace made by William Henry Fox Talbot in 1845.
