A Sunday gift

I had been going to go out into the garden and do some macros of plants that have gone to seed but a gift flew in in the form of a white faced heron.An estuary bird they supplement their diet with various insects and grubs in the local gardens and lawns. He had come to check out the plot kept by the high school students which is just behind us. Like all birds he checks for danger first so he alighted on this tall fence behind the neighbours. The fence is a nuisance and far too high in my opinion as it spoils the clear view we used to get of the mountains etc in that direction but the neighbours complained that kids were throwing things into their yard. No one else had a problem but they complained so much the school erected this fence at great cost to keep them quiet and without consulting us. 
Anyway a compensation might be that we will get herons perching more often.
