Farmer's Market Saturday
First Saturday each month is Farmer's Market. Stalls are set up along King Edward Street, and a wide range of colourful stalls sell all kinds of delicious (and sometimes not so delicious) food and drink.
I was heading into town for a WFI local meeting at 2pm, so we decided to come in a bit earlier and have a browse of the stalls and then go for a wee bit of tapas.
Here is G having a look at the game stall, on which is proudly displayed a whole hare, to my disgust. I know the 'Foodies' amongst you, and the likes of Hugh Poshboy-Savethebatteryhen, will think this is a good example of local, sustainable meat, free of chemicals and artificial additives etc. I think though, that it is vile and unnecessary to go out of our way to eat creatures when there are plenty of alternatives.
Likewise, Buffalo meat; wild Boar; Ostrich: in the name of God, why????
Anyway, my rant aside, I bought some lovely local cheese and some black pudding and haggis Scotch Eggs, and G bought a bottle of small scale distilled single Malt spirit. Then we nipped to Sante, where we shared chick-pea and black pudding stew; Spanish tortillas; ham croquettes; battered deep-fried Monkfish, all washed down with Diet Coke! (These new drink-driving laws have completely put the Kybosh on wine with lunch).
After, I headed off to St. Matthew's Church on Tay Street, where we had the brilliant big national WFI day in October, for a much smaller local meeting to decide what our branch will do to support SNP/Green Party/SSP candidates in the General Election.
Now I'm home, having a wee cup of coffee while G has gone to visit a friend, and after I've eaten I'm going to visit my sister to plan a wee break we hope to take at the end of April.
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend too.
PS - just realised my rant about the hare makes it sound like I'm vegetarian which I am not, but I don't see the need to go looking for more animals to kill than the ones we already have. And I often wish I did have the commitment to become veggie. The Scotch Eggs were delicious!
