David from Quarry farm ploughing

I passed this field on my roundabout way to Chalford this morning.  I saw the tractor disappearing over the top of the sloping hillside and thought there might be a blip there.  I pulled into a field entrance a few hundred yards up the road and walked back with the snow gradually increasing.

I watched the tractor re-appear over the crest of the field  with lots of seagulls and crows milling about.  I walked up to the line of the furrows to watch the machine approach and turn round, and to do so I had to climb into the rather old and thinning hedge to get a clear view.

The farmer stopped to inquire what I was doing and for the next half an hour we chatted about this and that.  I knew various farming friends of his from the nearby village of Bisley so we had lots to talk about, including sorting out the state fo modern farming.  He says he is going to plant spring barley which he hopes will be sold for beer production.

David was very friendly and fun and I hope we meet again.  He said e didn't mind me taking pictures but unfortunately the ones of him close up in his cab were not good technically.

So here is a picture of him restarting on the next furrow after we'd said goodbye.  I watched for a few more minutes than carried on.  Yo can probably notice the trails of the snow flakes falling at 45 degrees in the strong wind, if you look closely.

I must rush now as Helena and I are going out for dinner to celebrate her birthday!
